Anghra Mainyu, while typically seen as a sort of “bad god” is in actuality a force of destruction and malignment in classic Zoroastrian philosophy. The term refers to all those ways of being in reality which oppose the natural impulse in reality for progression towards perfection. While the term Angra is typically used, a few manuscripts, which have multiple archaisms, show Anghra instead, indicating its etymological origins with Ahreman (both from *Ahra Manyu).
