Ameretatāt: Immortality or Deathlessness
Amərətatāt (Amr̥tatāt), shortened to Amərətāt, is a concept literally meaning non-death-ness: a ‘negative particle’ + mərəta (marta, cf. maṣ̌(ii)a) ‘death’ + tāt a suffix meaning ‘state of’. The construction of immortality in Latin is nearly identical. The translation of deathlessness is sometimes used by the author as terms which have roots in Old English often have strong poetic strength.
In the Gathas, Amərətatāt refers to the immortality which can only be achieved when an object, person, or society, for example, has holistically actualized the order of existence within itself, thereby eliminating all causes of decay, death, and entropy. For this reason, it is usually paired with Hauruuatāt, given one can’t have one without the other. Full article coming soon.
