Sraōša: Listening to the Voice of the Divine
Sraōša literally means ‘listening’, and it refers to the ability of the individual to hear the voice of “God” which is constantly being communicated throughout existence, to those who are able to listen. Interestingly, in the Gathas it also seems to have the meaning of ‘martiality’ or ‘the ability to break asunder’, which can be seen in a few uses in the Gathas. This usage is also attested in an obscure meaning of the root sru- in the Vedas, meaning to break asunder, as well as a name for ‘whip’ sraōša.carana in the Vendidad and the general martial nature of the Yazata Sraōša.
