Saoshyant in the Gathas and after (coming soon)
Saōšyant meaning a “future-benefit-bringer” or “one who would bring about growth in the future” , was originally a term used by Zarathushtra for those significant (yet hypothetical) future people who would make life grow and bring reality closer to perfection. In later Zoroastrian mythology, there became a prophecy (in the Spand Nask) of a 3,000 year cycle where each of the three millennia had its own Saošyant who would fight against the forces of evil. They were named Uxšyat-ərəta ‘(he who) would grow Asha’, Uxšyat-nəmah ‘(he who) would grow reverence’, and finally Astwat-ərəta ‘Asha materialized’, who would bring about the perfection of reality and the final elimination of evil. This article will mainly cover the Gathic concept, while showing how it evolved. Full article coming soon.
